A first for the Grand Dole region!

From 13 – 18th July 2010, the Grand Dole region will host the 9th Hot Air Airship Championships at Dole-Jura airport. In fact the first Hot-air Airship event was in Luxembourg in 1988. An event of international standing, which will bring airship pilots from around the world. At the last event, which took place in St Petersburg, Russia, it was Jacques-Antoine Besnard’s Swiss team who took the world title for the third time.

But this event isn’t taking place here by chance

Since 2003, the Grand Dole community, Cameron Balloons France and the sponsors have been working together to organise the Dole Balloon Fiesta. This was undertaken through a desire to give hope and bring a smile to the faces of sick children, and also to give an opportunity to companies in the Dole basin and local organisations involved to demonstrate their dynamism and social commitment. After 6 successful events, the Balloon Fiesta has become part of the annual summer calendar, adorning the skies around Dole with an array of colours. In 2010 a new challenge awaits them whilst giving a new dimension to the event, one that is larger and more ambitious. Of course there will still be balloons, but they won’t be involved in a competition this time. Over 4 days the public will enjoy discovering Grand Dole from the air but at the same time will be able to watch the airship competition tasks. Without a doubt it will be a convivial, festive time!
